To Be Raw, or Not To Be Raw. That is the question!
It’s safe to say that at this time in my life, I feel amazing!! I feel light, energetic, I’ve lost a stone more than my original weight loss goal (I was aiming for 12st, I am almost at 11st) and more importantly I feel the healthiest I have ever felt!
And it’s all because of Raw Till 4!
For those of you who have never heard of Raw till four, it is basically when you only eat raw, uncooked fruits and vegetables all day until 4pm. Then you finish the day off with a cooked meal. Sounds tough, but it’s not!
This diet is mostly suited to Vegans or people that consume a mostly plant based diet, as it’s all about cleansing your body of toxins throughout the day by only feeding it un-tampered fruits, veggies nuts and seeds, but for people who do not wish to go fully raw 24/7!
Eating fully raw till 4pm then eating meat and dairy in the evening isn’t going to do you a whole lot of good. (plus animals die for that kind of food, and that’s cruel!) so It’s best to stick to Vegan foods in the evening.
(If you are considering Veganism, I wouldn’t suggest jumping straight into Raw till Four as you may find it too restricting if you haven’t familiarized yourself with the different ways to eat raw)
But for someone who has been vegan for a while; even a couple of months and is finding themselves reach for the Violife cheese toasties more often than the fruits and veggies, and want’s to feel healthier and loose weight. I would say try giving RT4 a go!
A typical day on RT4 for me, looks like this
9am – Half a large honeydew melon or quater of a giant watermelon and 1/2 litre of water
10am – A couple of bananas or any other fruits I want to snack on and another 1/2 litre of water
1pm – A large smoothie with pineapple, orange, spinach, cucumber and water I will also have some more fruit like peaches, apples or plums. And another 1/2 litre of water
3pm – Maybe some nuts if I feel peckish (I usually don’t) I will drink about another litre before 5pm
6pm – I am at home and cooking up anything I fancy (all vegan) I make sure to drink at least 1 more litre of water before bed and I also make sure that I get some fats, carbs and protein during the evening as I don’t have many during the day.
Then after dinner I always crave sweet foods so I usually cut up a couple of large oranges and chow down on them. (they help digestion so are good to have after a large meal)
This might not seem like a lot of food to some people, and it may seem boring to others but this amount of food fills me up every day and keeps me full of energy! When I first started eating only raw fruits & veggies throughout the day I did feel very tired at times, but my body quickly got used to it after about a week and now I can feel the food giving me energy!
I have been eating this way for about 4 weeks now, not consistently either! Some days I’ll crave crisps and I’ll get myself some crisps, but those cravings have decreased over time. But like any diet you can’t be too strict on yourself other wise you won’t enjoy it and be more likely to give up!
But you don’t have to eat the same way I have, there are tons of different ways to eat raw! You can make raw burgers, sandwiches you can have a HUGE variety of salads, rice rolls, juices & smoothies. The possibilities are endless and YouTube is a great tool for discovering new recipes, try watching some Vloggers who stick to a raw food, plant based diet.
For now, RT4 is working in my favour. And I have gotten so used to eating this way that whenever I eat any sweets or anything a bit naughty I always feel sick after eating it! I take that as my body not being happy with junk food anymore and rejecting it.
It’s as if my body is saying “Hey! You don’t need this food and I don’t like it, so cut it out!”
So I will carry on with this journey and who knows, maybe in the future I will go fully raw! I kind of feel like after a while my body will start feeling sick after eating cooked foods, and I absolutely LOVE the idea of being a fully raw vegan! But I want to experience RT4 for a few years before I consider doing so.
I will keep you guys updated with my weight loss journey, and for those of you who are new this time last year before going vegan I was a very depressed 14 Stone. I am a healthy happy 11.3 and aiming to loose another 5lbs by the end of August. But I will do a full post soon about how I lost so much weight and the positive impact it has had on my life!
