Videos that made me go vegan, and will make you too
Hello Chikas! (and the male equivalent of Chikas)
My 2 year Vegan-versary is fast approaching, wow has time really flown since I made the decision to go fully vegan. It was without a doubt the best decision I have ever made and going vegan has snowballed a series of positive events and changes in my life that have made me a much happier and better person than I used to be.
This blog being one of them, writing on here is like therapy for me. I love the idea that even one person reading this blog may change their mind about eating animals and start transitioning to a vegan, cruelty free lifestyle. I get a great sense of achievement when I post a video or blog and feel as though this is one of my main purposes in life.
Anyway, I’m blabbing…. today I want to share with you wonderful lot some videos that helped me go vegan. From YouTube to Netflix there are a lot of videos out there that expose the meat and dairy industry for what it really is.
As you can probably guess some of these videos are graphic, but don’t worry! I will warn you which ones are.
If you have any real interest in going vegan, leading a cruelty free lifestyle or even just <3 animals and want to make a start but cutting out meat and dairy then please make sure you watch what I am about to show you with an open mind and an open heart.
First I will start with the most popular of all, Earthlings. If you know a vegan they have most likely told you to watch Earthlings. The hour long documentary exposes animal agriculture & the way we as humans use and abuse animals for our own greed along with debunking the common misconception that animals are slaughtered “humanely”
This is the video that made me want to make drastic changes in my life. It is graphic, but life changing.
Cowspiricy (Netflix, not graphic)
Cowspiracy was one of the next videos on my list of what to watch to understand this whole vegan thing a little better. Mainly focusing on the environmental impacts of eating meat and dairy this thrilling documentary will open your eyes to a whole other side of animal agriculture and the damaging effects breeding 7 billion animals a year has on the planet Earth.
Available on Netflix and I’m sure you can find it online if you look hard enough.
EXPOSING A John West Tuna Boat (YouTUbe, Graphic)
Now, I cannot find the original video that I watched back in 2015 . But it was similar to the one I have embedded here.
I watched a short film on YouTube where someone was undercover on a John West tuna fishing boat and they were showing how the marine life were treated after being ripped from the sea. At this point I was a pescatarian (I ate fish but no other meat) for some reason I just couldn’t make the same connection to fish as I did to cow’s, chickens & pigs… I felt like they weren’t as sentient.
That all changed when I watched this video I was horrified. I could see the terror in the fish’s eyes as they were beaten and thrown about by the John West employees. It made me sick. I stopped eating fish from that moment.
Best Speech You Will Ever Hear – Gary Yourofsky
(Youtube, non graphic)
I do not agree with a lot of the things that Gary has said in the past. And to be honest I was very hesitant about putting him in this post as I no longer support him and am aware that a large amount of the vegan community feel the same. However, this is one of the first vegan YouTube videos I ever watched and it influenced my decision greatly, so I will put it in.
what i eat in a day VIDEOS (YouTUbe)
What I eat in a day videos were my main source of meal ideas when I first became vegan and had NO idea what to eat! So here are some of my favourites for you to watch and hopefully get some inspiration from!
P.S I also have a YouTube channel and make What I eat videos, check them out too!
